HURRICANE HARVEY | DONATION OPTIONS

Here is a non-exhaustive list of places to donate to. If you know of others, please comment so that they can be added.

CLOSING DATE: The closing date for this campaign will be: 11:59PM EST (i.e. New York) on Saturday, September 30th.

UPDATE: Someone asked if [personal profile] rscreighton and I will extend the dates of this fundraiser in the wake of Hurricane Irma. The answer is no. We can only dedicate the month of September to this community. However, if you would like to recommend more Irma charities, we will happily add them here.

All Hands Volunteers (AHV), especially if donated through FBB's Humanist Disaster Recovery Drive, would be the place I most strongly feel should be added to the list:

Whole Women's Health is providing no-cost abortions to those who have been affected by Harvey. They are getting their funding for this from the Stigma Relief fund, which is accepting donations.

Texas Library Association Disaster Relief Fund. The photo at the top of this Tumblr post is fucking heartbreaking and—while I recognize restocking libraries is not exactly on the top of the priority list while people are looking for food, water, and shelter—libraries are essential community services that have been and will be vital to affected Texans in days to come.

Wanted to leave this info about the Red Cross here. It's a tumblr article so tread carefully, but I can see this being true, honestly.

There have been many articles about the Red Cross' inability to effectively help manage disaster relief, including a good investigation by ProPublica and NPR here.
